Whale Shark caught off Malaysia

TELUK INTAN: A giant whale shark was caught in the Straits of Malacca, about 15km off Bagan Sungai Tiang, Bagan Datoh, on Sunday.
The massive shark weighed 3,000kg and was close to seven metres in length.

One of the fisherman, Tan Chong Kooi said: "We were shocked to see the shark trapped in the net with the other fish at about 3pm. We had problems dragging the net on board and had to get help from two other fishing boats nearby."

This is the biggest fish caught in Hutan Melintang, Tan said. "Sometime back a group of fisherman caught a whale weighing 1,500kg."

Upon hearing of the unusual catch, residents rushed to Hutan Melintang jetty to catch a glimpse of the shark.
The boat owner Lee Chew Bee said: "Within two hours, the shark was cut into pieces and sold to the residents and restaurant owners for RM2.50 a kilo."
